Basil

Basil

Ocimum spp.

Description

Think of this variety as basil on steroids. African Blue is a long-lived basil that will grow up to 4 feet high and across. It has lovely pink flowers and a deep musky clove flavor. The leaves are green on top, purple underneath. New foliage emerges as purple and then it fades to a bright green with purple veins. More ornamental than culinary, this aromatic plant is easy to grow and the flowers are just gorgeous! Like other basils, this plant thrives in hot dry weather! It needs very little water. African Blue is a very nicely scented plant that will draw bumble bees to the garden. * An excellent indoor plant!
