Clumping, tropical evergreen perennial plants with large, long-stalked leaves, striking flower clusters consisting of usually horizontal, stiff spathes with a sequence of crest-like flowers at the summit. Indoor specimens do best in a warm greenhouse, given bright light (but shaded from hot sun) and good ventilation. Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season, minimal watering in winter; and if in containers, fresh potting soil should placed on top of the roots every spring, with a complete re-potting given every other year.
