Comonly known as royal palms, these stately large single trunked palms are native to South Florida and the Caribbean basin. They have gray ringed trunks often with a bulge in them. The large feathery bright green leaves are borne atop a green crownshaft. They are prized as ornamental palms in tropical areas throughout the world. They are tolerant of heat and humidity but can tolerate only a degree or two of frost.
