Carpet grass or blanket grass is a stoloniferous, warm season, perennial grass that is often used as ground cover and turf in moist, low fertility soils. Thrives in warm, tropical areas. It is prized for its low growing habit of 6-12 in. and produces crabgrass-like seed heads in summer. Does best in sandy, well-draining, acidic soils in partial shade especially under tree canopies. As a lawn grass, needs annual rainfall of 3-13 ft. to survive. Hardy in zones 8-9.
