Persea americana is an evergreen tree native to Mexico and Central America. Avocados are a commercial crop grown in tropical, sub-tropical and Mediterranean climates all over the world. The tree can grow up to 60' when planted in the landscape and does best in full sun, humus or mulch amended, well draining soil and a frost free climate. Mexican avocado is the cold hardiest down to 26 degrees F. for short periods of time.
