Sansevieria vary widely in form and growth requirements as there are species from both arid and tropical climates. They are herbaceous perennials and spread by stolons or rhizomes forming clumping colonies. All tend to have fleshy leaves with those from arid regions having tougher hard surfaced leaves while those from tropical or semitropical regions tend toward thinner softer leaves. Indoors provide bright, indirect light and plant in well draining commercial potting mix and water when soil dries slightly.
